What size gates can you supply?
We offer a range of standard gate sizes, for both driveway and pedestrian gates. The sizes vary depending upon each product type.
Our driveway gates are typically available in 12ft, 14ft and 16ft sizes, although we may be able to provide larger sizes upon request.
Please click on the tab for the product that you are interested in, and it will show all of the sizes available.
Can you make custom gates for me?
Unfortunately we are not able to offer a bespoke manufacturing service at this time.
What are your gates made from?
Unless stated otherwise, gates are manufactured from electro-galvanised steel, which has been powder coated.
The electro galvanising process add a thin layer of zinc on the steel to prevent rust. The gate is then powder coated to create a rich gloss finish.
The combination of galvanising and powder coating provides a double layer of protection against rust.
How do I fit my gates?
From The Forge Ltd do not offer an installation service and the installation of the gates is the responsibility of the purchaser. We recommend that installation is undertaken by a competent, trained professional.
We recommend that where a new entrance is being formed that the gates are purchased along with our matching steel gate posts.
The gates are suitable for use with many automated systems, or can be easily adapted for manual operation, by fitting latches and locking pins following purchase. It is your responsibility to check that the gate is compatible with your chosen method of operation and installation.
Please contact us prior to placing an order if you have any questions, or require additional product dimensions and specifications to check that they are compatible with your preferred automation/operating system.
Alternatively, please ask your chosen installation company to contact us should they require product specifications, or have any questions?
How do I care for my gates?
Your gates are supplied pre-finished, meaning that they require minimal ongoing maintenance.
We do however recommend the following maintenance regime every once a year;
Wash: Gently rinse with water, then use a soft sponge or cloth with warm, soapy water (mild detergent) to wipe down the gate, working top to bottom.
Rinse & Dry: Thoroughly rinse off all soap and dry completely with a clean cloth to prevent streaks and water spots.
Lubricate: Apply a suitable lubricant (like silicone spray or grease) to hinges (where accessible) and other moving parts to keep them lubricated.
Tighten: Check and tighten any loose bolts, screws, or fasteners (where applicable).
Clear Vegetation: Trim back plants or vines that touch the gate to prevent scratching or moisture buildup.
Automation: Where gates are installed with an automated system, we recommend having the automation serviced regularly and in line with manufacturer guidance.
The galvanised and powder coating finish to our gates will offer protection against rust for many years. However, if the gate becomes scratched or damaged and subsequently rust starts to show, the exposed area should be gently sanded to remove any rust and then painted with a suitable exterior metal paint such as Hammerite.
What warranty / guarantee do you offer?
All of our gates are supplied with a 12-month warranty.
The warranty covers you against product defects, such as a welded hinge or fixing breaking.
The Warranty does not cover any issues that result from the product being damaged after delivery, or that arises following adaptation of the product.
The galvanising and painted or powder coated finish on metal gates does provide rust resistance. However the end user must regularly inspect and maintain the product. The Warranty is invalidated where a gate has been damaged and rusting occurs as a result of damage to the paintwork (which forms an important part the protective cover).
How do I know what size I need?
We've created a detailed measurement for each of the gate sizes that we offer which is available on all product pages. Please make sure you look at these before placing an order.
Do you offer trade pricing?
Please do contact us if you are a trade, or business and we would be delighted to discuss your requirements and associated trade pricing.
What if I order the wrong size?
Please do measure very carefully to check that our standard gate sizes are acceptable to you, before placing your order.
Whilst we are accept returns for undamaged or altered gates, in line with the stipulations contained within our Terms and Conditions, you will be responsible for the logistics and costs of returning the gates to us (which is expensive due to the size and weight of the gates).
